Kozhikode city is located in the northern part of the state of Kerala. It is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea in South India. The city of Kozhikode and the area surrounding it hold a special place in the annals of Indian history because its association with the famous explorer Vasco Da Gama, who landed here in 1498. The subsequent arrival of the Portuguese and other foreign powers on the coast along Kozhikode changed the history of India forever.
The present day Kozhikode city lacks the hustle and bustle of its glorious past. The rich heritage of this city is preserved in a number of museums, which are located in and around the city. Kozhikode and its surroundings are not famous for its cultural events but also for their natural beauty. The Pazhassiraja Museum, the Art gallery and the Krishna Menon Museum are important places to visit besides the Kozhikode beach and annual Malabar festival.
