City Information

"Surely the Gods live here; this is no place for men", wrote Rudyard Kipling of Kullu, India's valley of the gods. Located in the charming Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh and set amongst the lower reaches of the mighty Himalayas, this small town is famous for its temples, apple orchards, and the annual Dussehra festival, all of which attract thousands of tourists. Kullu is also known for its handicrafts. Beyond the town's perimeter loom the magnificent Greater Himalayas and the silver valley bisected by the Beas River.

Kullu is a small town and is best explored on foot. The Dhalpur Maidan area is the best place in town, and it is here that some of the important fairs and festivals of Kullu, especially the Dussehra, are held. For the religiously inclined, the Raghunath Temple and the Jagannathi Devi Temple are worth a visit. However, to most tourists, Kullu is a stopover for exploring the nearby places of the valley. The Kullu valley is the meeting point of several trek routes, mainly the routes from Chanderkhani Pass to Malana. The magnificent Beas also offers ample opportunities for white-water rafting.
