The Periyar Tiger Reserve situated within the confines of the Western Ghats in the Southern Indian state of Kerala, is one of the most captivating wildlife parks in the world. The picturesque lake in the heart of the sanctuary spans an area of 55 sq km. This lake, which initially led to the submersion of large tracts of forestland, however became an excellent sanctuary for wildlife, which includes Asiatic elephants, gaur (bison), tigers, leopards and bears among others. In 1975 Periyar forests were declared as a tiger reserve under the Project Tiger. Thekkady, the tourist zone of Periyar Tiger Reserve, is the embarkation point for visits to various parts of the park on boats for wildlife viewing. The terrain ranges from hilly to flat grassland areas at the edges of the lakes. The vegetation is of moist evergreen type.

Accommodation

Comprises 29 deluxe cottages and 1 suite cottage set amidst lush tropical gardens and overlooking the natural bounty of the forests that surround Cardamom County. The deluxe cottages feature spacious interiors, with modern architecture & ambience. All the cottages are elevated with private balconies with a panoramic view of the Kumily hills and the forests of Periyar Tiger Reserve. The rooms include European bathrooms with bathtubs and the rooms have a private sit-out attached to each. Additional beds are available on request.

The Suite Cottage is generously proportioned and luxurious, elevated 75 feet from the ground and overlooking the swimming pool. It has a well-furnished sitting room and a bedroom with a splendid view designed to capture spectacular sights & sounds of the forests.

Special Features in the cottages at Cardamom County include STD/ISD dialing facility, Cable TV, Mini refrigerator, Complimentary mineral water, Geysers and Twin beds.

Our wildlife viewing trips can be taken aboard the boats in the Periyar Lake or by the treks we organize into the forests.

For those interested in the spice trail, we organize visits to the spice gardens that dot the countryside. Our conducted plantation tour covers the plantations here including tea, cardamom, pepper, cinnamon etc. Indeed a trip which you will cherish long after you have left the serenity of the Cardamom County Resort.

If you want to see the life at Periyar, we invite you to take a ride on our bicycles around the countryside - a truly earth side view of the life and times of the people of the mountains.
